The city’s most underrated burgers

These are the patties you should stop passing up


The recipe for a classic American burger tends to be made up of four ingredients: Lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. However, you can really put anything between those two buns — and restaurants around town are getting creative. This week we are taking a look at ten local burger restaurants, and the burgers they wish diners would ask for more often.

Moo & Brew, Plaza Midwood
Most underrated burger: Wild Alaska salmon burger
What’s on it: Alaskan salmon, house pickles, Bibb lettuce, tomato, and lemon dill yogurt


Cowbell Whiskey & Burger Bar, Uptown
Most underrated burger: The Bruiser
What’s on it: A blackened beef patty finished with red wine, gorgonzola, roasted shiitake mushrooms, caramelized onions, iceberg lettuce, and horseradish cream on an onion bun


Bang Bang Burgers, South End and Elizabeth
Most underrated burger: TNT burger
What’s on it: Spicy ghost pepper cheese, fried onion strings, shaved jalapeños, and Sriracha mayo


Ace No. 3, Myers Park, Concord, and Belmont
Most underrated burger: The Ace
What’s on it:  Two patties, American cheese, steamed onions, house-made pickles, and Comeback sauce


Blacow Burger, University and South End
Most underrated burger: Nutty Goat burger
What’s on it: Balsamic onion, garlic and herb goat cheese, pecan mix, chipotle aioli, candied bacon, pickle and arugula


Birra Burger, Matthews
Most underrated burger: Chimichurri burger
What’s on it: Angus patty, avocado, Monterey Jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and chimichurri sauce


The Cowfish, SouthPark
Most underrated burger: The local yokel
What’s on it: A half-pound beef burger, goat cheese, fresh basil, fried cherry peppers, lettuce, tomato, red onion, Abbott Farms F.R.O.G. (fig, raspberry, orange, ginger) jam reduction on a brioche bun 


Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar, multiple locations
Most underrated burger: Pastrami burger
What’s on it:  A patty topped with pastrami, Swiss cheese, pickled jalapeños, arugula, and Bad Daddy’s sauce


Bae’s Burgers, Food Truck
Most underrated burger: The sunburn
What’s on it: Dry-aged grass fed beef by Gibson Farms, crispy bacon, American cheese, fried egg and garlic mayo on a brioche bun


Pinky’s Westside Grill, Huntersville and West End
Most underrated burger: Asian pork burger
What’s on it: Ground pork, Korean BBQ sauce, and cilantro-honey slaw
