Where Chefs Eat: Miranda Brown
This pastry chef isn’t afraid to say she loves Waffle House

Miranda Brown plates desserts at Euphoria Greenville.
Chefs know good food, so we want to know where they eat when they’re not cooking. In this series, we ask a local chef, bartender, or server to share their favorite restaurants in town and what they order there. This week, it’s pastry chef Miranda Brown of The Asbury. Brown’s palate tends to lead her to Asian cuisine, and her list is an invitation to explore. —Kristen Wile
Honey Buns in Super G Mart, east Charlotte
This international market is curious cook’s playground, with exotic fruits, a broad fish and meat selection, and staples from around the world. Honey Buns is in the small food court.
Miranda’s order: The Thai iced tea with boba (Super G has the best boba in Charlotte, hands down, Brown says) and kimchi or Chinese pork buns. This pastry chef also gets dessert, of course. Her choices? A red bean bun and Malay cupcake.
Pho Hoa, Plaza Midwood
Down on Central Avenue just past Plaza Midwood is Brown’s favorite pho.
Miranda’s order: Pho with steak and brisket, as well as banh xeo (a savory shrimp pancake).
Nana’s Soul Food, west Charlotte
An unassuming strip mall restaurant, Nana’s serves hearty Southern dishes.
Miranda’s order: The meatloaf special on Wednesdays, with mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, and a dinner roll, with banana pudding for dessert.
Musashi, Pineville
Traditional Japanese fare and sushi are served in a minimalist dining room.
Miranda’s order: The lunch special on Saturdays, or the katsu-don (pork cutlet) served over rice, and sake.
Waffle House, just about any direction
This beloved breakfast-all-day chain needs little explanation
Miranda’s order: The All-Star Special (scrambled eggs, bacon, and smothered hashbrowns, with a pecan waffle). Brown adds peanut butter chips to the waffle.

Glad to see Waffle House get props! Because .. sometimes, ya just gotta.
Standard order .. two over light, country ham, scattered/smothered/covered, whole wheat toast.
Big thumbs up on Mushashi and Pho Hoa too!
