Q&A: Cocktail meetups, World Cup final

Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte

In addition to excellent food, the bar at Albertine offers an excellent cocktail program. TM Petaccia/UP

Q:  Some former co-workers reached out that they’d be in town this week and want to get together for cocktails. They’re coming from Uptown, but South End and East Blvd are fine. Thoughts?
    Tom:
There are lots of great choices in those areas. Most also offer some excellent nibbles to go along with your reunion sips. In Uptown, I would look at Fin & Fino, Albertine, Sea Level, and The Cotton Room (bar only). Heading into South End/Dilworth, I would highly recommend Elsewhere, Lelulia Hall, R+D Bar (inside Thai Taste after 9 p.m.), Chapter 6, Yunta, and if you are open to cocktails and cigars, The Vintage Whiskey and Cigar Bar is always a fun night.

The massive screen wall at Blinder’s in South End make it a great spot to catch the World Cup final. TM Petaccia/UP

Q:  What’s a great place to watch the World Cup final this Sunday?
    Tom:
Well, your first stop should be our article on favorite World Cup watching spots, but if you are asking me to pick out some particular favorites, I’d head to either Blinder’s in South End, Growler’s Pourhouse in NoDa, The Craic in SouthPark, or El Malo/Hermanita in Plaza Midwood. The game starts at 3 p.m. Sunday, so I would advise getting there at least an hour early for a little pre-gaming as well as snagging a good table. No doubt a full house is expected everywhere.
