Q&A: The best spots for date night, affordable in Uptown

Each week, we answer your culinary questions about Charlotte

    Sukoshi

Sukoshi is a good spot to grab a quick dinner in Uptown before a show. Kristen Wile/UP

Q: What are some more affordable options for a restaurant Uptown pre-show at Belk Theater?
UP: If you’re into oysters, head for Sea Level‘s oyster happy hour. Mert’s is just down the road, as is King’s Kitchen if you’re in the mood for soul food. You could grab a sandwich at Rhino Market or Coco & the Director, or pop over to The Local for bar food. Sukoshi‘s small dining room serves up sushi and bowls, but it’s made for fast service, so don’t plan on spending a long meal there. You can also stop by the new Sabor!

Q: Where’s the best place for a 30th birthday party for my daughter? Thinking Legion in SouthPark?
UP: Happy 30th to her! I think you’re on the right track with a brewery, and Legion might be just the place. You can also reserve a table at Resident Culture and bring in food; I’d suggest a pizza party with pie from Sal’s. For something a little more formal, you could rent out the private dining room at Foxcroft Wine Co. Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen also rents out their new space for private parties. A friend recently had a baby shower at The Hop Shop in Plaza Midwood; they brought in food and it was low-key but fun. If you want something more formal, like a sit-down dinner, check out our list of private dining rooms here!

Q: What are some of your favorite date night restaurants in Charlotte? Looking for something more on the quiet side with good ambiance and, of course, great food.
    UP:
Aix en Provence! The lights are low, the service is formal, and the food is phenomenal. There’s something romantic about French food, you know? Aqua e Vino is another small, quiet spot with stellar food and a great wine list that I’d put on my list of top three date night spots. For the more adventurous eaters, Bardo is a fun date night spot. I’d sit at the bar with mixologist Amanda Britton and take your time ordering plates to share.
