The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority held its annual Partners in Tourism awards on Wednesday, Jan. 26, and several local restaurateurs were honored. The awards are intended to recognize individuals and businesses that contribute to bringing visitors to the city. According to CRVA, the Charlotte area is the top visitor destination in the state.
The Destination Impact Award went to Greg and Subrina Collier, owners of Leah & Louise. The Destination Impact award is given to an individual who “has the unique ability to guide and inspire others, builds strong relationships that support a high level of trust and credibility which in turn contributes to the overall success of the visitor economy.” The married couple and business partners hosted the BayHaven Food & Wine Festival last fall, a weekend-long event that celebrated Black chefs, restaurants, and foodways with a series of small dinners and larger events. In addition, their restaurant Leah & Louise has gained the city national media attention.
The Colliers are the first restauranteurs to win the award. Former honorees include Bruton Smith and Mayor Vi Lyles.
The Queen City Amplifier award is given to businesses that foster “a positive perception for our region and through their role in supporting tourism, ensured powerful visitor spending efforts that contributed to an economic impact.” Winners can include hotels, nightlife, retail, restaurants, and more. Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen, owned by Alyssa and Andrew Wilen was one of the 2022 winners. The LoSo cooking school is a popular date night destination, and supports local farms and businesses through the ingredients used in their classes.
