A cocktail bar named Members Only is open Plaza Midwood. The bar, from NoDa spot The Juice Box owner Kimberly Wilkinson, is in the space formerly occupied by Cork & Crate.
The interior maintains Cork & Crate’s coziness, but with a little more sophistication. Green faux-velvet barstools accent delicate pink walls, and a corner made for photos features a swing and greenery wall.
“I feel like nowadays everything needs to be kind of Instagrammable to stand out,” Wilkinson says.
There are also wooden board games available throughout the bar, and Wilkinson a plans to frequently host events at the space. On Valentine’s Day, for example, she’s considering a dinner where guests eat blindfolded and are fed dinner by their significant others or perhaps other singles.
The small bar will serve craft cocktails and beer, and there will be a small selection of retail wines that can be purchased and taken home or consumed in the bar. The wines will be a combination of big names, such as Silver Oak and Veuve Cliquot, and small producers.
Wilkinson, who also owns The Juice Box in NoDa, will oversee the bar operations, with Haberdish bartender Rhea Buck consulting on the cocktail program. Wilkinson also purchased a food truck from Cork & Crate’s owners. Wilkinson’s partner will manage the food truck, which will be in front of the restaurant. Once the food truck is up and running — they’re finalizing permitting now — expect it to serve a consistent menu during the evenings, with a weekend brunch that pairs with a bloody mary bar.
Because the bar is a private club, guests will have to pay a $20 membership, which is good for one year. Members Only’s hours will be Wednesday through Friday from 4 p.m. until closing and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until late.—Kristen Wile
