Chefs are having fun with this season’s tomato crop
Which restaurants are highlighting tomatoes on their menu this summer?
It is prime tomato season right now, which means chefs are adding the summer fruit to their menus in creative ways. Some are sticking to the classics, like BLTs, while others are playing with the fruit’s acidity and texture for more composed dishes. Here is a list of tomatoes on current menus that we’re excited to try this summer. –Justin Burke-Samson
Stone Table, in Monroe, has a creamy, cheesy summer tomato pie made by chef Matthew Sganga’s mom, served with a simple salad.
The Stanley, in Elizabeth, has two tomato dishes on their menu: The not-so-caprese with tomato cracklin’, full of texture and the tomato’s acidity, and a fried cheese with tomatoes a few different ways.
Stoke, in Uptown, keeps the integrity of the heirloom tomato intact with their panzanella salad.
Kindred, in Davidson, has had a tomato tart with white cheddar and salted butter crust showing up on their menu a few times during weekdays.
Barrington’s Restaurant, in South Charlotte, has an heirloom and cherry tomato salad with fried green tomatoes tossed with green goddess dressing.
Barcelona Wine Bar, in South End, has an heirloom tomato and watermelon gazpacho.
