Where Chefs Eat: Idlewild’s Vince Chirico

Chirico is a bar owner on the go and knows which places around town offer great food and carry-out

We know chefs can cook great food, but where do they eat when they’re not cooking for guests or themselves? In this series, we ask a member of the restaurant industry to share their favorite five local restaurants (not including their own) and what they order. Idlewild’s owner and bartender, Vince Chirico, understands the importance of meals on the go but also not jeopardizing quality. While between meetings, headed in or out from work Chirico has his preferred eateries that are great for carry-out or dining-in if he has a few extra minutes. –Justin Burke-Samson

    Local Loaf, NoDa
A gourmet sandwich shop and eatery focusing on artisan breads and pastries
Chirico’s order: Kickin’ chicken sandwich, but all the sandwiches are good choices

    Pizzeria Omaggio, Cherry
A locally sourced pizzeria blending Italian and American classic pizzas
Chirico’s order: The calabrese pizza, it’s so delicious

    Musashi, Pineville
A mom and pop restaurant focusing on traditional Japanese cuisine
    Chirico’s order: The Tonkotsu ramen
His pro-tip: get there as soon as they open because there is usually a line to wait

    Billy Jack’s Shack, NoDa
A causal dine-in and carry-out restaurant and bar focusing on craft beer and burgers
Chircio’s order: Any of the burgers

    Haymaker, Uptown
A locally sourced, Southern inspired eatery by Asheville chef William Dissen
Chirico’s order: Always the shrimp and grits
