Q&A: Michelin in Charlotte, the best local coffee
Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: When is the Michelin Guide coming to Charlotte? It’s time.
Kristen: The process of Michelin coming to a city is pretty lengthy — and expensive. Cities generally pay a significant amount of money for the guide to bring their coverage to a city. The Atlanta Business Journal reported last year that the Atlanta tourism board paid up to $1 million to make it happen there. There are now 44 Michelin-recognized restaurants in Atlanta — but only five Michelin-starred restaurants, and none with more than a single star. Is it worth $1 million to bring Michelin here? That’s hard to say — it wouldn’t bring in that in additional restaurant sales, but it would give the city a new level of prestige.
Q: Who in Charlotte sells the best local coffee?

Kristen: That’s hard to say, because coffee is such a personal preference! Enderly Coffee sells a gift pack around the holidays featuring coffee from shops around the city — I’d suggest sampling that and selecting your favorite! I really enjoy Giddy Goat’s coffee, though, if you’re looking for a firm answer.
