Where we’re ordering from on Super Bowl Sunday

Here are our staff picks for game day takeout

This Super Bowl will be a quiet one, with folks watching with their immediate families instead of the entire block. While we’ll certainly miss playing squares and debating the quality of the commercials, we’re not planning on letting the pandemic change how seriously we take our snack spreads. Here’s where we’ll be ordering from for the big game. Don’t forget to grab your Moscow Mule Sampler Kit from us on Sunday morning to make sure you have drinks taken care of, too!

Wild Card with an add-on of 12 jumbo wings, Sweet Lew’s BBQ
Go classic with a family-style takeout meal from this Belmont neighborhood barbecue joint. The Wild Card is perfect for a small family, with a pound of pork, a pound of brisket, one side, buns, and red slaw. Add on a dozen wings to check another football staple off your prep list.

Burnt ends, Midwood Smokehouse, and a Cubano sandwich, Suarez
I’m thinking about a mash-up of the two city’s cuisines — definitely some burnt ends from Midwood Smokehouse to honor Kansas City’s great contribution to American barbecue. (If you want pork, I’d opt for the ribs from Bobbee O’s slathered in da sauce.) To represent Tampa’s cuisine, I’ll be grabbing a Cubano sandwich from Suarez.

Super Bowl Sunday special, The Porter’s House
Preorder a complete appetizer set for pick up at the restaurant on Saturday, Feb. 6. The platters serve four, and include shrimp cocktail, charcuterie, multiple dips (including Buffalo chicken), and a crudité plate for $150. Pair it with cider from Red Clay Ciderworks and homemade sangria.

Lots of dishes from Lam’s Kitchen
When I was younger it was all wings, nachos, and Miller Lite. As I got older and learned how to cook, I made large spreads — one even included 24 different items — before toning it down to only chili or Bojangles. This year, however, we’ll be doing a large spread from Lam’s Kitchen in Matthews — think seven main items and lots of sides. That way, we can pile up a plate of many tastes! Lam’s is some of the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. Our order will include their Beef Chow Fun, Honey Roast Pork, Szechuan Wontons, Snow Pea Tips, their excellent fried rice, and an off menu item called King Soy Noodles.

    Super Bowl bundle, Freshlist
Last year, we started what I hope will become a new Super Bowl tradition: Jon frying up wings at home. Freshlist is selling a Super Bowl bundle with chicken wings, barbecue sauce from Sweet Lew’s, and crunchy veggies to round out your wing platter. Order for pick-up at Freshlist’s headquarters in the Belmont neighborhood.
