Where chefs eat: Good Food’s Larry Schreiber

The chef of one the city’s most popular restaurants shares his favorites

Chefs know good food, so we want to know where they eat when they’re not cooking. In this series, we ask a local chef, bartender, or server to share their favorite restaurants in town (not including their own) and what they order there. Soon to be the chef at Bao + Broth, Larry Schreiber of Good Food on Montford shares his top five. —Kristen Wile

Crispy Banh Mi, South End or Plaza-Shamrock
These traditional Vietnamese sandwiches are served on crunchy bread and are topped with pickled vegetables and cilantro
Larry’s order: Grilled pork bahn mi

    Futo Buta, South End
The small ramen spot along South End’s rail trail is popular among chefs
Larry’s order: The tonkotsu (pork broth) ramen

    Musashi Japanese Restaurant, Pineville
To get the most authentic food, ask for the Japanese menu
Larry’s order: Niko tofu (which Schreiber says is like a French onion soup with the cheese replaced by soft tofu with a raw egg on top)

    Poppy’s Bagels,  Cotswold
Bagels, sandwiches, and salads draw a dedicated crowd for a quick lunch or breakfast
Larry’s order: Poppy seed bagel with lox and cream cheese

    Vietnam Grille, South Boulevard
This restaurant down South Boulevard is always mentioned in conversations about the best pho in town
    Larry’s order: House special bun
