Unpretentious Cooking: Boozy Grasshopper Milkshake

Enjoy this treat on St. Patrick’s Day or anytime of the year


I am not declaring the grasshopper dessert or drink as an official St. Patrick’s Day treat. I am actually quite fond of the minty, sweet concoction seven months out of the year. It is hard, though, not to think of the vibrant green, minty grasshopper during St. Patrick’s Day. This recipe combines dessert and cocktail into one thing and like most Unpretentious Cooking recipes, the quantity of ingredients is the base. Feel free to add or decrease the amount of ice cream, liquor, or cookies as you please – same for how long you blend the milkshake, depending on whether you prefer silky-smooth or a thicker shake that needs a spoon to enjoy. Celebrate with a boozy grasshopper milkshake anytime of the year. 

Boozy Grasshopper Milkshake
Serves 2 

Ingredients
1 pint mint chocolate chip ice cream
½ cup whole milk
1½ ounces crème de cacao
1½ ounces crème de menthe
½ cup chocolate wafer cookies or oreos, crushed  

Directions 

  1. Using a blender, pulse the ice cream, milk, crème de cacao, and crème de menthe until combined but still slightly thick. 
  2. Add the cookies and pulse a few times to evenly distribute cookies. 
  3. Pour into two large glasses topped with whipped cream and additional crushed cookies or shaved chocolate.
