There’s a new bottle of wine on The Fig Tree’s restaurant menu that will be a must-order for wine-loving Steph Curry fans: the initial release of Domaine Curry, a Napa Valley cabernet sauvignon.
Ayesha Curry, wife of Davidson alumni and NBA player Steph Curry, has teamed up with Curry’s sister, Sydel, and the winemaker of Coup de Foudre to create the wine. The fruit is grown in a nine-acre plot north of Calistoga, chef/owner Greg Zanitsch says, and includes both low and high elevation fruit.
“It’s a big cabernet, it’s drinking really well out of the gates but it should only get better of the next few years,” Zanitsch says.
The wine, cabernet sauvignon with petit Verdot and cabernet franc, is listed for $178 on the wine list. Zanitsch recommends pairing it with the restaurant’s braised meats once the menu transitions to fall, or the elk chop, steak, or lamb. The restaurant has eight bottles of Domaine Curry in its cellar.
Like most cabs, time in the cellar could do some good for the wine, but that likely won’t be happening at The Fig Tree.
“I think it would benefit with age, but I have a feeling it won’t be around,” Zanitsch says.
Arthur’s Wine Shop, the wine shop inside of Belk at South Park Mall, received six of the 15 four-packs of Domaine Curry allocated for North Carolina at the end of July, and still has a few left. The four-bottle case sells for $520; a single bottle is $130. —Kristen Wile
