SouthPark restaurant permanently closes
Covid-19 brought “financial devastation”
SouthPark wine bar and restaurant Corkbuzz has closed permanently due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The restaurant was owned by Laura Maniec Fiorvanti, one of the few female Master Sommeliers in the world. The Cellar at Corkbuzz is also permanently closed.
“It is impossible to open a restaurant built on the community, bringing people together, events, and our core business model when it is not safe to have wine events or classes or even dine in the way we previously were able to,” the restaurant said in a statement. “The financial devastation of this crisis makes re-opening impossible for many small businesses including ours and while we wish things were different, we want to close knowing that we did everything we could to make it a success to the end. We will not be able to pivot in a substantial way to get through this while keeping our guests and staff safe so we have decided it is best to close.”
The Corkbuzz locations in New York, where Fiorvanti is based, will remain open, and virtual classes will continue. Fiorvanti decided to open Corkbuzz in 2015 in part because she had family in the area. —Kristen Wile
