Q&A: Stay ready for patio weather with this list
Each week, we answer your foodie questions about Charlotte
Q: Why is the Concierge late this week?
UP: Thursday was a bit crazy at UP headquarters; we had vet appointments for Rosie and Titan and were negotiating on a house! Sorry about that, and thanks for understanding!
Q: Umm this weather! What are some of the best patios to take advantage of it?
UP: With this list, you’ll be ready next time it rolls around! I enjoy the patio at RuRu’s, though the food isn’t all that memorable. Margaritas in the sun, though, certainly are. The front porch at The Fig Tree makes for a wonderful fine dining evening. Poplar Street Café’s brick patio has a quaint charm to it, with the restaurant being in a historic home in Fourth Ward. If you’re doing some day eating or drinking, try RockSalt for $1 oysters from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m on weekends. They’ve been doing some serious patio upgrades lately, too. Hello, Sailor is a slam dunk for a sunny day. Finally, Dilworth Tasting Room and Foxcroft both have wonderful outdoor spaces to enjoy a glass (or bottle, no judgement here) of wine.
Q: Is going out on Valentine’s Day really worth it?
UP: Yes! But I tend to stick to one rule: Research menus before you go. Holidays like Valentine’s and New Year’s tend to bring out some really cool dishes that restaurants don’t serve any other time, like the duck hearts I had at The Asbury on New Year’s Eve. Find a menu that you need to try, and go there. Here are Justin’s tips, too.
Q: Where are you going for Valentine’s Day?
UP: I’m not sure yet! Jon’s best friend is going to be in town for the All-Star Game, so the three of us might go out, or just order a pizza from Sal’s and hang out at our house. Sunday’s Meat & Potatoes dinner will be our big night out this week, and I’m sure I’ll be full for days afterwards! Hope to see you there!
