Plaza Midwood wine shop closing

The shop will sell its remaining wines at deep discounts this week

Cork & Crate closed its doors in Plaza Midwood. Kristen Wile/UP

Wine shop Cork & Crate is closing after two years in business. Owners and married couple Christopher and Lakendra Walker told regulars in an email newsletter that they had moved back to Texas after a death in the family.

Cork & Crate, on Central Avenue down past Veterans Park, had a small tasting room and also sold retail wines. The couple opened Cork & Crate in late 2017, and kept a carefully curated selection on their shelves, so shoppers weren’t overwhelmed by options. The shop often hosted tastings, and kept learning about and drinking wine accessible and affordable. It was a low-key place fit for conversation with friends.

To move their remaining bottles, Cork & Crate is hosting a clear-out sale on Wednesday, Oct. 30. All bottles between $20 and $49.99 will be sold for $19.99, with higher end bottles such as Opus One’s 2016 vintage selling for $349. Get an additional 15 percent off if you buy three or more bottles. The sale will run from noon to 7 p.m. —Kristen Wile
