Local chef to compete on Chopped
An episode featuring Chris Coleman of The Goodyear House airs this week
Chris Coleman will compete on Food Network’s Chopped tomorrow, Nov. 26, at 9 p.m. Coleman is executive chef of upcoming restaurant The Goodyear House in NoDa. The restaurant will serve comfortable cuisine in an old mill house.
The theme of Coleman’s episode is “Meat Fight,” with the following episode description: “A beef theme is a meat lover’s dream in this competition. The four chefs must cut jumbo-sized ribs down to appetizer-appropriate portions in the first round. A premium steak and a second-rate grocery store meal meet in a puzzling entree basket, and creativity and a shining example of good sportsmanship are on display in the dessert round.”
Coleman is a family man with a reputation for being a kind, fun colleague, making us wonder if that example of good sportsmanship comes from him. The appetizer round seems like something Coleman could ace, too. We’re curious to see how he does. Before working at The Goodyear House, Coleman was the opening chef for Stoke inside of the Marriott in Uptown. He previously held executive chef positions at The Asbury and The McNinch House.
There will be a watch party for the episode at Salud in NoDa. Coleman isn’t the first Charlotte chef to appear on Chopped; Brigitte Oger of CraftCakesCLT recently competed on a dessert edition. Clark Barlowe competed back in 2012. —Kristen Wile
