A guide to Charlotte-area CSAs

Sign up early to ensure access to weekly fresh produce

Community Supported Agriculture, or CSAs, may be beneficial if you are striving towards a healthier lifestyle or you want more consistent access to fresh, locally-sourced and grown food.

CSAs are subscription-based packages based on in-season harvests that allow you ongoing access to local food and provides you with the opportunity to intentionally connect with local producers. Here’s where to order CSAs from local farms. This list will be updated.

Barbee Farms

Barbee Farms’ CSA includes three 12-week sessions. The spring session is Apr. 14 through June 30. The summer session is July 7 through Sept. 22. The fall/winter session is Sept. 29 through Dec. 15. Offerings include items like carrots, kale, sweet potato, peaches, white onions, and more. A full share is $380. A full share may include one half pound of carrots, one pound of kale, four pounds of sweet potatoes, two spaghetti squash, and one half pound of spinach. A half share is $200. A half share may include three quarters of a pound of carrots, half pound of kale, two pounds of sweet potatoes, one spaghetti squash, and a quarter pound of spinach. Both shares include the same items. Participants can join one, two or all three of the 12-week sessions. Participants can join or drop during session breaks only. Pickup at the farm each Thursday. Bush N Vine Farm

Bush N Vine’s CSA program offers one four-week option during the winter and five seven-week options throughout the remainder of the year. Share sizes are extra small (feeds one to two), small (feeds two to three), medium (feeds three to four), and large (feeds five to six). All baskets include fresh fruit and vegetables. Small City Farm

Small City Farm has two seasons of CSAs. Participants can join the 17-week spring/summer CSA or the eight-week fall CSA. The spring/summer option includes vegetables, herbs, and fruit. It typically starts the last Tuesday in April. Pickup from the farm on Tuesdays from 1:30-6:30 p.m. Cost of a full CSA is $400. Egg and flower add-ons are available for an additional cost. The fall CSA typically starts in October and runs through the first week in December. The cost is $200 and pickup is every Tuesday from 1:30-6:30 p.m. at the farm. Street Fare Farm

Street Fare Farm offers a full season farm share option that includes 24 weeks of fresh produce. The season runs April through November with a summer break in July and August. Year egg share add-on is available for an additional cost. $183.75 – $700.00. The spring farm share is 12 weeks and runs from April through July. $91.88-$350. Payment plans are offered. There are eight different pickup locations. Order online

Tumbling Shoals Farm

Tumbling Shoals Farm offers fresh organic fruits and vegetables. The shares are customized based on the participant’s vegetable preferences. The season is 22 weeks with deliveries beginning the first week in May through September. Share sizes are small for $412.50, regular for $605, and extra large for $880. The fall season is 11 weeks, starting October through Christmas with no service the week of Thanksgiving. Pickup available at Charlotte Regional Farmers Market. There’s one share size for $253. Wild Hope Farm

The 14-week regular share runs from April 26 through July 26. It includes eight to 10 different types of vegetables. $490. A summer Verdant sourdough bread add-on is available for $126. A summer Watson egg add-on is $91. The small share includes five to seven types of vegetables. $350. A 12-week spring/summer flower add-on is $198. There are five pickup options. Register online

Windy Hill Farm

Windy Hill Farm offers a six-month meat-only CSA. The contents include a variety of meat, including beef, pork, and chicken. There’s an option to add one to three dozen eggs to each month’s share. New members are accepted throughout the year. The half share is $550 and the full share is $999. Half and full CSA samplers of a variety of beef and pork are available to try before signing up for the six-month CSA. $99 for half share sampler and $180 for full share sampler.
