Catawba Brewing will begin serving hard seltzers at its Belmont neighborhood tap room this weekend. Called Twisp, the seltzers are made by Catawba Valley Brewing Co., the parent company of both Catawba Brewing and Palmetto Brewing Co. The initial lineup includes The Mule, The Paloma, and The Spritzer, based on the flavor profiles of popular cocktails. Spencer Schultz, the bar manager at well-respected Asheville restaurant Rhubarb, helped develop the drinks.
The seltzers are served in 12-ounce cans and will be available for purchase this Saturday, Oct. 19. Hard seltzers have become a popular new offering at breweries as a gluten-free, low-calorie, and low-carb alternative to craft beer. NoDa Brewing released a hard seltzer line, called Brizo, last fall.
Twisp is currently only available in tasting rooms, though it will be distributed for retail in early 2020. To note its release on Saturday, Catawba is hosting a party beginning at noon with giveaways and a treasure hunt in Plaza Midwood. —Kristen Wile
