Good Food to reopen with new look, new chef

Bruce Moffett’s small plates restaurant is getting a refresh

Good Food on Montford closed temporarily for renovations last month, with owner Bruce Moffett saying after 11 years in operation, the restaurant was ready for a refresh. The small plates spot will also have a new kitchen staff when it reopens on October in a few weeks, with chef Andy Alexander as its executive chef.

The entire restaurant has gotten a deep clean. The cork decor has been taken down, and the floors sanded and refinished. The new interior look will play off the building’s mid-century modern design, Moffett says.

“We’re going to put some new artwork in there, introduce some color into it that we never had before,” he says. “My feeling with that place has always been it’s a cool vibe, but at the same time it’s always about the food. I think we can continue down that road with the new design. I think it will just have a little bit of visual appeal and brightness to it that we have not had before.”

The color palette will include orange and blue-greens.

The menu will also see some changes under chef Alexander, who worked for Moffett at Stagioni before moving to eastern North Carolina to work for renowned chef Vivian Howard. “I feel like with the Covid thing and the to-go business, we kind of got away a little bit from the small plates and the globally-inspired,” Moffett says.

The classics — such as the mussels, Korean beef, and steamed bun — will stay on the menu, but the recipes have been revisited and adjusted. New items by Alexander will be added, but will stay within Good Food’s style of cuisine.

“It’s going to be a nice mix of the way he interprets globally inspired and the way that it was always interpreted,” Moffett says.

The logo will also get an update as well. The reopening date is tentatively set for Oct. 20.
