Generosity in Spirits will take place again this year (hopefully with better weather), on Monday, Dec. 9. The event, which debuted last year, brings together some of the city’s best bartenders to raise money that will be used to buy Christmas gifts for children. The event was started by Dogwood Southern Table bartender Brian Lorusso, who was inspired to organize a fundraiser after seeing how many kids’ Christmas wishes were hanging on an Angel Tree in his neighborhood. The same roster of bartenders is back this year: Lorusso, Haberdish’s Colleen Hughes, Dot Dot Dot’s Stefan Huebner, Soul and Tattoo’s Kel Minton, The Queen & Glass’s Bob Peters, and Bardo’s Amanda Britton.
“I really wanted to get all the tags off the tree and couldn’t really do that,” Lorusso told us last year when announcing the event. “I thought, ‘How can we get all the names on the tree taken care of?’”
Each bartender will have a spot behind the bar and serve a signature cocktail at The Gin Mill in South End, which is donating the space. The Gin Mill is co-owned by Matt Lorusso, Brian’s brother. There is a $20 cover charge to enter, and each drink will cost $5. All of proceeds will go to kids on the McCrorey YMCA’s Angel Tree. Last year, the group raised more than $5,000, despite one of Charlotte’s rare snowfalls taking place that day.
The event begins at 6 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. There will be snacks from The Gin Mill, as well as Yafo’s Shai Fargian and The Goodyear House’s Chris Coleman. We will see you there! —Kristen Wile
