Bartender Bob Peters finds new home in Plaza Midwood

He’ll be behind the bar of an upcoming restaurant following Queen & Glass’s closure

Bob Peters has a loyal band of regulars, and they’ll follow him to any bar where they can sit across from him and enjoy his drinks and convivial personality. Since leaving The Punch Room at The Ritz, Peters has been focusing on his consulting business — Bob Peters Consulting — and spending most of his time at Dilworth bar The Queen & Glass.

Last week, however, The Queen & Glass (and sister concept The People’s Market) closed. Peters already has a new home base: upcoming restaurant The Grinning Mule in Plaza Midwood, which will open in mid-March. The non-profit restaurant, which we previewed in depth last summer, will serve an eclectic small plates menu. Former Heist executive chef Scott Walker will run the kitchen; the restaurant is owned by Bart Kofoed, founder of 2xsalt Ministry. During his time working in the non-profit world, Kofoed kept hearing about the need for jobs. He decided to open the restaurant to help create those jobs.

Peters says to expect a playful bar program there. The menu will include a signature mule, as well as an Orange Julius-inspired drink made with mezcal as an ode to the old Dairy Queen on Central Avenue. The Grinning Mule is tentatively set to open on March 17.

Peters is also currently consulting on upcoming South End restaurant Alchemy, opening this spring. —Kristen Wile
