ABC store opens in South Charlotte today

People camped out for a chance to score bourbon

There’s a new liquor store in South Charlotte as of Thursday morning. The Mecklenburg ABC board opened a location in the Waverly development, where 485 hits Providence Road. Waverly is home to restaurants The Porter’s House, CO, Ted’s Montana Grill, and more, with Foxcroft Wine Co. hoping to open this fall. The Waverly store is Store #28.

Bourbon collectors lined up for a chance to buy rare bourbons, which are often on shelves to celebrate Meck ABC openings. About a dozen folks were already lined up at 6 a.m. Thursday morning, but mostly got bottles that are easily available in other states, like Angels Envy Rye, Henry McKenna, Blanton’s, and E.H. Taylor Small Batch. There were a few bottles of Blade & Bow 22 year available to the first in line.

Up next is an opening on Independence Boulevard in Matthews. If you’re partying this weekend, don’t forget to do your shopping by Saturday. The ABC stores are all closed on Monday, because nobody shops for liquor on a holiday, and on Sunday per usual. —Kristen Wile
