Q&A: Lady Funari, 2026 Michelin odds
Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: I’m excited about Lady Funari. Any updates on when we can expect it to open?
Tom: That makes two of us. B-Side’s latest concept, an homage to culinary director Vince Giancarlo’s grandmother, Lady Funari, was originally slated to open at the end of this month. However, recent social media posts simply say “Opening Summer 2026.” As we all now know, this is pretty standard for a restaurant opening. There are always too many variables to pin down an opening day. That’s said, I’m eager to see what’s coming to the former Futo Buta space in South End. Daytime caffé, nighttime pasta bar. I can tell you, before it officially opens, UP will have a special preview night. So stay tuned for that. In the meantime, don’t miss our preview event this Tuesday, June 16, as we get a sneak peek at Corey Jones’ new Mad Dash Kitchen.
Q: What’s the early line on next year’s potential Michelin recipients in Charlotte?
Tom: I don’t think DraftKings has set up a prop board for this yet, but I love the idea. One thing I know, the hardest thing isn’t necessarily getting Michelin: American South recognition, but keeping it. Last year’s baker’s dozen of area Michelin recipients are under the gun to keep their standards up to get a 2026 red plaque for their walls. If I’m setting the line, I’d say it’s 2-3 that not all 2025 recipients will be repeat winners. That said, I feel good about at least one of last year’s Recommended restaurants will cross the One Star threshold, say 7-5. If you like long shots, 15-1 that Charlotte nets a Two Star restaurant. We’ll all find out October 21, when this year’s recipients are announced in Nashville. Of course, all of this is for entertainment purposes only.
