Elegant and balanced French wine you can store for two more years

When Unpretentious Palate asked our subscribers for feedback on our performance and your expectations, many of you asked for recommendations of higher-priced wines that do not fit into our popular 20-Buck Bottle series. This are now included as “cellar picks.”

2019 Montagny Premier Cru Les Bouchots Meursault;  Colin Barollet Estate, Cote d’Or, France.

Available at: Arthur’s Wine Shop at Belk, Southpark
    Price: $45.99
Drinking window: Drink now through 2026

On the Nose: Stone fruit, tarragon, white floral, mineral, lime zest. Clear light gold color
On the Palate: Elegant and balanced with a long finish. Mineral, integrated acid, crisp apple, hint of butter
On the Plate: Pan-seared salmon, rare ahi tuna, baked rice or pasta and cheese casseroles; roasted artichokes; roast chicken with lemon, goat cheese with apples
Serving Note Remove from refrigerator and open for at least 15 minutes before pouring to allow the wine’s aromas to open

Our Take: Silky texture with classic Meursault notes make this a good selection for Chardonnay lovers.

Details and Fun Facts: The Montagny region is a white grape growing region, with chardonnay as the dominant grape. The hillsides are made of very old limestone, which imparts a light acidity to the grapes. Wine has been made in this region for at least 800 years.
