Q&A: Afternoon tea, pizza with fresh mozz

Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: I have friends coming to town from the New York Tri-State area and they love going to an afternoon tea in the cities we visit.  Are there any restaurants (independent or hotel based) that serve an Afternoon Tea that you would recommend?  One that includes savory and sweet items.
    Kristen:
The Ballantyne Hotel does an afternoon tea service on weekends from 1 to 4 p.m. There are a few other options, but none of them are as formal as that one. Pauline Tea Bar & Apothecary is one option that is a bit more casual, but has fantastic tea. We did have a reader ask this once, and a UP Member suggested Laura’s Tea Room in Ridgeway, S.C. and shared it was worth the drive.

Q: Does anyone make a traditional margarita pizza? They call it that but don’t use fresh mozzarella.
    Kristen:
They do, don’t they?! My first recommendations would be Inizio or Indaco, pictured below. Capishe also uses bufala mozzarella. Another place to check out is Wheelz.

At Indaco in South End, diners can select a pizza as their first course, including the margherita. Kristen Wile/UP

Q: I know there’s an article somewhere about dress codes at restaurants but could you give us a quick list of restaurants that have them?
    Kristen:
I don’t think we’ve ever collected them, but the ones that come to mind are Dot Dot Dot, Merchant & Trade, and Steak 48.
