Q&A: Private dinners, trendy spots
Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: Since you are connected to the food scene in Charlotte I was wondering if you have a recommendation about a personal chef who could cook for a dinner party of 8 to 10 people in south charlotte residence in January. Most of us have had experience of fine dining in star restaurants in Europe and in the past we have used the chef from Reunion Park Pop-Up.
Kristen: I’d reach out to Patrick Garrivier from Patrick’s Gourmet, he has worked for Daniel Boulud in the past and previously owned Aix en Provence. Sam Diminich and the team at Your Farms Your Table/Restaurant Constance also do in-home meals, which are fantastic. The latter is more farm-to-table, whereas Patrick is classic French.
Q: Any suggestions for a good trendy/new place to take my wife for her birthday?
Kristen: I’d check out Yunta, Chapter 6, or L’Ostrica, depending on the vibe you’re looking for! Yunta is high energy, while Chapter 6 is a bit more laid back. L’Ostrica is a tasting menu, if you’re looking for the most special culinary experience.

Yunta in South End is a great restaurant for a celebration. Kristen Wile/UP
Q: I have a friend who would like to take visitors to a rooftop restaurant for lunch in Uptown. Any ideas?
Kristen: There aren’t too many open for lunch during the week. I’d suggest The Waterman in Sedgefield. They’ve got a great view!

Great personal chef – Matt Hoang. He did a meal for my family a couple of years ago. Food & service were outstanding. And they cleaned up everything before they left. 704)219-9270.
