Mediterranean white shines as a seafood go-to
by Anita Skogland
2020 Le Jade Picpoul de Pinet, Les Costieres de Pome, France
Available at: Vintner’s Wine Market
Price: $15.99
On The Nose: Basil, salt, fresh linen, white flowers
On The Palate: Refreshing acidity, light body, lemon zest, sweet pear
On The Plate: Pair with oysters, scallops, shrimp, clams with garlic and linguine, or Caesar salad
Our Take: Very good Picpoul with more complexity than many bottles on the market
Fun Facts: The cooperative that makes this wine overlooks the Mediterranean Sea along the southern coast of France. The Languedoc-Roussillon region has had a lot of wines produced in cooperatives; however, as more young, talented winemakers purchase land in the region, more high-quality, single-varietal wines are being produced. The word Picpoul means ‘sting the lips’ or, lip-smacking good.
