20-Buck Bottle: This chardonnay should be on your table

It’s hard to find Burgundy at this price point

    by Anita Skogland

2019 Macon La Roche-Vineuse “Le Clos” Chardonnay, Domaine Perraud, Burgundy, France

Available at: Arthur’s Wine Shop, Belk at SouthPark Mall
    Price: $24.99

On The Nose: Lemon, apple, cashew, brioche
On The Palate:  Light+ body, medium acidity, peach, clean finish with a hint of green apple
On The Plate: Pair with roast chicken, pan-seared trout, pasta with fresh tomato, vegetable frittata

Our Take: This chardonnay is not oaked, but it does sit on its lees for a few months to develop the body and color, which is a pale gold. A value wine, considering it is from Burgundy.

Fun Fact: The Burgundy wine region is about 180 miles long, from Chablis in the north to Mâconnais region in the south. Chablis can get quite cold in the winter, and snow is not unusual. The Maconnais region is warmer as the land is flatter and the valley gets much wider. The major grapes produced in Burgundy are pinot noir and chardonnay. These are some of the most expensive wines in the world. This winery is a fourth generation family owned operation.
