20-Buck Bottle: A Spanish white for summer flavors

    Crisp, salty, and savory

    Ostatu White Rioja 2020

    Available at: Petit Philippe
    Price:
    $19

On the nose: Citrus, stone fruit, pear
On the palate: Medium body, refreshing acidity, salty, green apple
On the plate: Pair with grilled shrimp, ratatouille, hearty salads, roasted chicken thighs

Our take: This blend of viura and malvasia grapes is a great all-around white wine at a fair price. Made from old vine grapes (35 to 75 years old), this wine should stay fresh for another two years.

Fun fact: Alavesa is a cool, wet area of Rioja, which produces wines with elegance and finesse and lighter alcohol than the Alta or Baja regions. This is also the smallest of the three Rioja grape growing regions.
