20 Buck Bottle: A Spanish white for summer farewells
Crisp, salty, and savory
Ostatu White Rioja 2020
Available at: Foxcroft Wine Co., Petit Philippe
Price: $19
Made with: A blend of viura and malvasia grapes
On the nose: Citrus, stone fruit, pear
On the palate: Medium body, refreshing acidity, salty, green apple
On the plate: Pair with grilled shrimp, ratatouille, hearty salads, roasted chicken thighs
Our take: Good all-around white wine at a fair price from old vine grapes (35 to 75 years old) that should stay fresh for another two years.
Fun fact: Alavesa is a cool, wet area of Rioja, which produces wines with elegance and finesse and lighter alcohol than the Alta or Baja. This is also the smallest of the 3 Rioja grape growing regions.
