20-Buck Bottle: A dry white perfect for seafood

Wet winters are the key to this Spanish wine

    by Anita Skogland

2022 Bodegas Gallegas Vinabade Albarin, Salnes Valley, Rias Baixas, Spain

Available at: Vintner Wine Market, The Arboretum
    Price: $20.99

On the Nose: Pear, apple, fresh rosemary, citrus
On the Palate: Crisp acidity, light minerality, lemon zest, lightly salty
On the Plate: Grilled shrimp or scallops; summer green salads; peach, tomato, and feta salad; white beans with pesto

Our Take: Flexible summer white that is food-friendly and a nice departure from Sauvignon Blanc

Fun Facts: Rias Baixas is a cool climate region in northwestern Spain. It lies along the Spanish Atlantic coastline, just north of Oporto, Portugal. Cool, wet winters give the grapes sufficient water to maintain their growth during the hot, dry summers. The Salnes Valley is surrounded by water on three sides, which makes it the coolest of the three grape-growing regions in Rias Baixas. The wines are typically dry with high acidity and refreshing salinity.
