Wine shop rebrands to embrace unexpected offerings

Assorted Table Wine Shoppe is a popular stop for two kinds of collectors

Assorted Table’s new logo embraces more than just wine.

Assorted Table Wine Shoppe is now Assorted Table Wine and Shop. Located in The Market at 7th Street, Assorted Table has a robust selection of wine, mixers, beer, sake, and collectable super hero figures and toys. The shop also sells bicycles when they are available — an eclectic combination of product inspired by the interests of store owner Josh Villapando.

The rebranding reflects the diverse vibe at the store, with offerings ranging from wine to sci-fi and action figures and other collectibles. Alcoholic beverages are at least 90 percent of the store’s sales; however, they have regular customers who shop the collectable products for birthday and anniversary gifts. Villapando is a long time toy hobbyist, with a collection including matchbox and Hot Wheels. He added some of his collection to the store shelves while waiting for his wine license approval, which brought in a different customer base. He was pleasantly surprised to see this business aspect take off; when his son was born, he brought the rest of his collection to the store and a new revenue stream ensued. Collectibles are not just for kids – a few wine distributors are customers, as well as former customers from his days at Common Market and Pasta and Provisions. A few customers children have purchased toys, while the adults purchased pricey champagne – a win for all.

Assorted Table and Wine Shop also has a varied calendar of events. They host Tuesday night flights, a once per month wine club tasting, weekly wine and cheese pairings with Orrman’s Cheese Shop, and are reinstating their wine, food, and comics dinners. Villapando noted that Jean-Luc Picard of Star Trek comes from a family of winemakers; Chateau Picard Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux is from an estate in the heart of the world-renowned Staint-Estephe region in France. Josh brings his adventurous spirit into the wine shop to provide an interesting shopping experience.

The new branding includes a mecha, or sci-fi style, robot, with a wine bottle strategically placed in the logo. Open house for the new look will be on Tuesday, June 14 between 5 and 7 p.m. The Market at Seventh Street has new hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
