Where to enjoy midday drinks and snacks

These restaurants offer afternoon hours


There’s no shortage of places to find great food and drinks in Charlotte. Many restaurants are only open for dinner, however. If you’re looking for a place to have a drink and enjoy great food in the afternoon, these Charlotte area restaurants, breweries, and markets have you covered.  

131 Main, multiple locations

The restaurant offers an upscale dining atmosphere. The menu includes salmon, crab cakes, ribeye, and more. On the beverage menu, guests will find wine, cocktails, beer, and more. Check online for location hours. 

300 East, Dilworth

Whether you’re looking to celebrate a special day with dessert and a drink or looking for a more scenic work meeting, the patio at 300 East is one of the best for al fresco afternoon sustenance. Open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Friday; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.

The Artisan’s Palate, NoDa 

The restaurant has a cozy vibe and offers a bar bites menu in the late afternoon. Menu items include roasted tomato basil soup, empanadas, sliders, and more. The bar bites menu is available Tuesday through Saturday from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Drink offerings include beer, wine, and cocktails. Open Tuesday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10:30 a.m-11 p.m., Sunday from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m., and closed on Monday.

Coaltrane’s Char Grill, Plaza Midwood

The rotisserie and char grill is inspired by South America. The menu includes a variety of items, such as bowls, char-grilled wings, salads, soups, sandwiches, and more. Various beers and cocktails are on the drink menu. Open Monday from 5-9 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.-11 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. 

Essex Bar & Bistro, Uptown

With a menu inspired by cuisines across the globe, Essex is a mix between a lounge and a bistro. The offerings include soups, salads, flatbreads, sandwiches, tacos, and bistro plates. Open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m.-10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11-12 a.m. 

The Goodyear House, NoDa

The restaurant’s menu includes snacks, salads, small plates, plates, and desserts. The bar offers beer, wine, and craft cocktails. Open Tuesday and Wednesday from 4-10 pm., Thursday from 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.-11 p.m., Sunday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m., and closed on Monday. 

Hawkers Asian Street Food, South End

The restaurant has a menu that includes Asian Street food with strong flavors. Beverage options include a variety of craft cocktails, beer, and wine. Open Sunday through Wednesday from 11 a.m.-10 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday from 11-12 a.m.

The Jimmy, Myers Park 

The restaurant serves aperitivo — a pre-meal drink — from 2-5 p.m. daily. The menu includes small plates, salads, pizza, and pasta.

Legion Brewing, multiple locations

Legion Brewing has locations in SouthPark, Plaza Midwood, and Ashley Park. Each menu is unique offering a variety of starters, salads, pizzas, entrées, sandwiches, and brews. Check online for location hours.

The Loyalist Market, Matthews 

While The Loyalist Market may be known for offering a large selection of artisanal cheeses and its charcuterie boards, the menu also includes sandwiches and salads. Visitors can also choose from wine, draft beer, and more. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 12-9 p.m. and closed Sunday and Monday. 

Margaux’s Wine, Pizza and Market, Pineville 

Located in downtown Pineville, Margaux’s offers a vast selection of old world wines alongside a menu that’s filled with St. Louis-style pizzas, calzones, salads, charcuterie, sandwiches, and entrees. Open Tuesday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m., Sunday from 12-8 p.m., and closed Monday. 

Old Town Kitchen & Cocktails, Rock Hill 

Known for its neighborhood feel and craft food and drinks, Old Town offers a menu filled with locally-sourced, seasonal items. On tap at the bar are 16 taps of regional beers. Guests can also enjoy wine and craft cocktails. Open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.-11 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. 

Reid’s Fine Foods, multiple locations

Visitors can order from a diverse menu of salads, sandwiches, and wraps. Options include roast beef, salmon BLT, Greek salad, cobb salad, and more. The beverage menu includes cocktails and wine. Check online for location hours. 

Sea Level NC, Uptown 

Sea Level’s fresh seafood comes from the Carolina coasts. Guests will find a lunch menu sandwiches, soups, salads, tacos, raw bar, chef features, and more. There’s also an extensive wine list, and draft cocktails. Open Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m.-11 p.m., and closed Sunday. 

Vana, South End 

Vana is known for its relaxed atmosphere. The wood-fire kitchen’s brunch menu includes items such as Vana wings, smash burger, whole roasted fish, and more. Vana offers craft cocktails along with wine, beer, and liquor options. Open Tuesday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m.-11 p.m., Friday from 11-12 a.m., Saturday from 10:30-12 a.m, Sunday from 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m., and closed on Monday.
