Wahlburgers no longer coming to South Charlotte

Hawthorne’s Pizza will move into the former Lure space

Hawthorne’s NY Pizza & Bar will move into a larger space at The Village at Robinson Farm, replacing Lure Oyster Bar. The development, off of Rea Road, is easily recognizable for the lighthouse-esque tower that marks the corner of Rea Road and Williams Pond Lane. Hawthorne Pizza opened its first location on Hawthorne Lane and 7th Street in 2004, and now has eight locations.

Lure Oyster Bar closed in the spring of 2017. The restaurant’s space was expected to become a location of Wahlburgers before the franchisee backed out on the project.

Hawthorne’s has already had a location in Robinson Farm, which opened back in 2012. The move will make the pizza place an anchor tenant in the development. When it opens in late August, Hawthorne’s will be in a 5,970-square-foot space, compared to its former location, which was just over 3,500 square feet. Hawthorne’s plans to remain in near continuous operation until the restaurant’s reopening.

Red Sake, an Asian fusion restaurant, will take over the Hawthorne’s space. Owners Steve Li, Chunan Li, and Yisa Yang also own Wild East Pan-Asian Bistro on Carmel Road. Their new concept will meld Chinese, Japanese, and Thai dishes one on menu, and will open in early 2020. —Kristen Wile
