Vintage owners buy Elsewhere
GW Hospitality Group adds another bar to its South End lineup

by TM Petaccia
Nearly a year to the day after brothers Grayson and Gage Wassweiler, under their then newly formed GW Hospitality Group, purchased The Vintage Whiskey and Cigar Bar that straddles Dilworth and South End, the duo assumed ownership of Elsewhere, a small craft bar just up the street on Worthington Avenue.
“We’re always looking for opportunities that are appealing to us,” says Greyson. “Concepts that fit the same theme of craft cocktails. So when we saw this come up, we jumped on it.”
“We got just the same kind of vibe of upscale environment and high-end cocktails as The Vintage,” Gage adds. “And the location is great, dead center of South End with all these other great bars and restaurants right around us to add traction to bring customers in.”
Currently, Elsewhere is closed while the bar undergoes a slight remodel — adding new refrigerators and other equipment to streamline the bar. “We’re doing what we can so our employees can make even better, nicer craft cocktails,” Greyson says.
The interior of the bar will get some minor decoration updates, but the biggest update will be to Elsewhere’s patio — with all new upgraded outdoor furniture and decorations. “We’re looking to enhance the overall experience,” Greyson adds.
GW Hospitality’s beverage director Joe Gonzales will oversee the cocktail program, however most of Elsewhere’s bartenders and servers will remain on staff. Ben Torres, GW’s president of operations, will oversee operations at the new property.
Elsewhere is slated to reopen at 4 p.m. this Friday, August 8.
“We’re going to see how things go the next couple of months and possibly tweak some changes then,” Greyson says, “but we really loved the place already. We just want to make it just a better place to hang out, something people will keep wanting to come back to.”
