Unpretentious Cooking: Slow Cooker Party Mix
An easier way to make a popular household snack
When asked what cooking equipment I can’t live without in my home kitchen, I always mention a slow cooker. Before parenting I enjoyed using my slow cooker when I worked long hours and wanted to come home to a finished meal. Now with a kid, it serves the same purpose plus helps prepare large batches of snacks and bases (stocks, sauces) for the week in less time. One of my favorite snacks to make in my slow cooker, instead of using my oven, is party mix. It cuts down the time spent frequently checking if it’s burning and cooks consistently every time. If making this recipe, make sure your slow cooker has a vent on the lid; if not, ajar the lid to prevent the condensation from collecting and dropping on the mix.

Cooking party mix in a slow cooker prevents burning and cooks evenly. Justin/UP
