The Piedmont Culinary Guild is hosting its Sensoria Food & Wine Festival on April 7 at Central Piedmont Community College. The annual festival celebrates literature and the arts; the culinary component was added last year by the Piedmont Culinary Guild.
The event, which runs from noon to 4 p.m., includes a tasting of wine and bites as well as classes. It’s an opportunity to try dishes from some of the best chefs in the city and explore wines from North Carolina producers.
More than a dozen chefs are cooking in this year’s event, including Chris Coleman of Stoke, Greg Zanitsch of The Fig Tree, Michael Rouleau of La Belle Helene, Paul Verica of The Stanley, and Jossie Lukacik of Sweet Affairs and Sweet Spot Studio. Among the vineyards providing samples are Raffaldini, Childress, Shelton, and RayLen.
Seminars are open to anyone who purchases a ticket, including options such as one called “Regaining Respect for Merlot” and a primer on pairing food and wine. A VIP ticket option is also available, which includes four varietal-appropriate Riedel glasses that attendees can take home and a tasting on why using the correct glassware is important.
Tickets cost $65; VIP tickets are $115. Purchase tickets here. Proceeds from the event support support scholarships for aspiring chefs. —Kristen Wile
