Staff picks: The best fried fish dishes in Charlotte
Where we love fish and chips and fried fish sandwiches

It’s the time of year when fried fish gets extra love, thanks to Charlotteans who are celebrating Lent. While fish sandwiches and fish and chips are delicious year round, we’ve put together a list of our staff’s favorite fried fish dishes for those who need help avoiding meat on Fridays, or just craving some fried fish.

Crispy flounder and chips, Hello, Sailor
The lakefront restaurant by Joe and Katy Kindred takes seafood staples and recreates them with quality sourcing and a bit of a chef’s twist. This fish and chips includes crispy flounder, thick-cut fries, and sauce gribiche.

Haddock ‘n Chips, Big Ben Pub
Charlotte’s British pub serves a classic fish and chips, beer battered and served with fries. The restaurant will soon be moving from South End to the former Carpe Diem space.

This casual neighborhood hangout in Park Road Shopping Center serves its lightly-battered fish with thick fries, tartar sauce, and malt vinegar.

Chefs Daryl Cooper and Oscar Johnson serve dishes inspired by their hometown of Hampton Roads, Virginia. This fish sandwich comes packed with flavor, with your choice of a seasonal catch fried and stacked with hot sauce, Jimmy Pearls’ signature sauce, and a field pea slaw. Jimmy Pearls is popping up at 7th Street Public Market Thursday-Saturday until the end of February.
