Mother’s Day is a celebration for all the contributions that mothers provide to family, friends, neighbors, and in general to the well being of our communities. At UP, we celebrate our number one mother, Kristen Wile, and all she does for her family at home and at work. 

If you are making brunch or dinner, or gifting your mom for her own consumption, here are some wines to consider that will say thank you.

Alexandrie Brut, Alexander Cellars, Napa, Calif.
A blend of pinot noir, pinot meunier, and chardonnay, this wine is made in the methodé Champenoise, and is a classic profile of champagne. Medium body, constant fine bubbles, good mousse, and balanced acidity make this very food flexible. The wine is named after the daughter of winemaker Chloe Bello. (Foxcroft Wine Co., $42)

Gerhard Bertrand Sparkling Wine Brut Rosé, Limoux, France
A beautiful salmon-colored wine that is dry and crisp, with raspberry notes and roses. A good choice for fish, hearty salad, soufflé, or fruit salad. (Arthur’s Wine Shop at Belk, $22.99).

Graham Beck Classique, South Africa
A blend of chardonnay and pinot noir, this was selected by the White House to celebrate the inauguration of President Barack Obama. Notes of yeast, citrus, creamy palate, a good wine with roast chicken or a charcuterie plate. (Assorted Table Wine Shoppe, $22.99)

Domaine Carneros 2017 Brut by Taittinger, Napa, Calif.
Crisp apple and lemon on the nose, fresh baked biscuits with almonds, soft mousse on the palate. This wine is a collaboration between the famous Taittinger Champagne house and Kobrand Corporation. A very good value. (winestore., $24.99)

Chapel Down Sparkling NV Rosé, England
Southern England has been growing grapes near the Dover Cliffs for about 20 years, and the wines continue to improve and impress. Expect lemon zest, orange sherbet, and strawberry, with a very fine bubble and mousse. If you want to try something new, this would be a good selection. (Petit Philippe, $47)
