SouthPark sees slew of restaurant closures
Permanent closures are picking up pace

As the Covid-19 pandemic stretches on, restaurant closures are beginning to pick up pace. We recently reported on a number of closings at the Epicentre in Uptown. Now, we’re seeing several restaurants cease operations in SouthPark.
Brio, an Italian chain in the Piedmont Row development, has permanently closed, leaving its Asheville location as the only in the state. American Burger Company has closed on Fairview Road. The casual eatery, owned by Amergent Hospitality Group, still has several other locations in Charlotte.
“Unfortunately we were unable to reach new lease terms with our landlord,” Amergent president Fred Glick says. “Two other Charlotte American Burger locations remain open, including The Burger Company on Morehead Street and American Burger Company on Rivergate Parkway.”
Pink Cactus, a taco concept that replaced Treehouse Whiskey and Fork last year, is also now closed. The restaurant seemed to struggle from the start, with incohesive offerings that included tequila, Sunday brunch, tacos, and hookah.
Fast-casual Tandur Indian Kitchen has also ended operations in Morrison Shopping Center after a hyped-up opening in April 2019. The only remaining location is in Knoxville, Tennessee.
We also broke the news recently that Corkbuzz, a wine-focused restaurant by master sommelier Laura Fiorvanti, and sister concept The Cellar at Corkbuzz, had closed permanently.
