Sal’s Pizza Factory opens its second location for business today, Wednesday, April 7. The second restaurant is located in the Dilworth neighborhood, off of Park Road near Ed’s Tavern. It replaces Chi’s Pizza.
Serving Jersey-style pizza — a crunchier version of the thin New York crust — Sal’s has become a favorite for Northeasterners in the city. The pizza selections at the Monroe Road restaurant range from classics such as pepperoni and meat lover’s to pizzas heaped with what could be entire meals as toppings, including a fried calamari marinara or chicken with vodka sauce. An underrated option — and a personal favorite — is the grandma vodka sauce, a thin-crust pizza with vodka sauce and fresh mozzarella.
The restaurant has a wide selection of pizzas by the slice, which recently returned to the menu after a pause because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Diners can also expect Italian-American classics like chicken parmigiana, baked ziti, pastas, and hot sandwiches.
Owner Fabio Durrazo’s father aspired to open 14 pizza shops named “Dusals,” which means two Sals, in New Jersey. Now, there are two Sal’s in Charlotte.
