Restaurants will end dine-in service at 5 p.m.
Takeout and delivery can continue
Restaurants will be required to end all dine-in service tonight starting at 5 p.m. Takeout and delivery services are still allowed, as are alcohol sales.
The executive order from Governor Roy Cooper’s office will also include an expansion to unemployment benefits. According to the North Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association, a group that lobbies on behalf of the hospitality industry, the service industry makes up 13 percent of the state’s workforce. More details on the executive order will be announced at 2 p.m.
In order to keep front-of-house employees working, several restaurants are shifting their servers to become delivery people. More on this to come. —Kristen Wile
