Resident Culture launches new wine program
Natural wines have a big presence on the list

Plaza Midwood brewery Resident Culture has offered a small, well-chosen wine list since opening in September 2017. Printed on a piece of paper available by request behind the bar, the list included a handful of options selected by Good Food on Montford’s general manager. The brewery recently brought oversight of the wine program in-house, with chief marketing officer Amanda McLamb deciding it was time to offer a broader selection to those who come to the brewery but aren’t in the mood for beer or just prefer to drink wine.
The resulting list has a wide variety of selections, more than two dozen by the bottle. There are some recognizable names, such as Orin Swift’s Locations labels and Whispering Angel rosé, as well as some adventurous varietals, like Greek white assyrtiko. There’s also significant number of natural wines, which means the wines are unfined and without added sulfites. Fining a wine is a process of adding something that will bind to sedimentary particles, allowing them to be filtered out. Natural and organic wines have been growing in popularity lately. Even Pét-Nat makes the list more than once, giving the wine list a personality that fits Resident Culture’s laid back, indie vibe.
The launch of the wine list comes with the introduction of half-off wine bottle specials on Thursdays. We’ll see you there. —Kristen Wile
