Q&A: Uptown show meals, Chapel Hill suggestions

Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink

Q: I have a trip coming up in a couple of weeks and will be in the Chapel Hill and Durham areas specifically. Any recommendations for can’t miss places to eat? No specific type of cuisine or level of dining, and options for breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner would be appreciated. We are also willing to visit Raleigh or other surrounding areas if necessary for best options on any recommendations.
Kristen: Don’t miss Alley Twenty Six in Durham! They have not only some of the best cocktails in the state, but also some incredible food. For breakfast, check out La Farm Bakery in Cary, between Durham and Raleigh. Their white chocolate baguettes are delicious, and something I ask friends to bring back for me every time they’re nearby. Next, if it’s a nice day, enjoy lunch and an afternoon cocktail on the patio at TOPO Distillery’s Top of the Hill Restaurant in Chapel Hill. For dinner, I think it’s worth heading to Raleigh for Poole’s Diner, if you haven’t yet been, and if you are a chocolate lover, head to nearby Videri for a hot or iced chocolate. We have a whole day of eating (pre-pandemic) in Raleigh, too.
Q: Where can I get Easter takeout?
Kristen: We’ve got you covered! Here’s our list of takeout Easter meals.
Q: I’ve got a friend coming to town to see Bon Jovi. Where should we eat beforehand?
Kristen: The Asbury, Sea Level, or Haymaker! If you’re looking for something more Bon Jovi-themed, try The Public House. Be sure to get a cocktail there — Russ Johnson, formerly of Stagioni, is behind the bar menu.
Q: Can you recommend a place in Charlotte that would be good for a group dinner, around 10-20 people, in Uptown or surrounding neighborhoods?
    Kristen:
I’d check out the private dining rooms at Napa on Providence or Fin & Fino. The Artisan’s Palate has a nice side room, with an artsy lighthearted vibe. In Elizabeth, The Stanley has a divided dining room, so the lower dining room would be great for this. Also, The Asbury has a small dining room and a fantastic chef.
