Q&A: Update on the new restaurant from The Fig Tree

Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: I saw that you interviewed Greg Zanitsch for the PPP loan series. Do you know what is happening with the Belmont restaurant they were going to open?
UP: Yes, I actually asked him about that! They were supposed to close on the building on April 1, but that date has been pushed back to June 15. “I’m still optimistic that will happen,” he told us. “I would just like for the restaurant to be up and running — The Fig Tree up and running — before we close. I just would hate to close on a new building and not have The Fig Tree operational. But we’re so excited about it. We had the meeting with architects and stuff, but we just decided it was too much going on and put everything on hold. Probably in the middle of May or end of May we will know more.”

Q: I really want to support local more. Do you know of any places we can get stuff from local farms delivered or picked up curbside? I’m not ready to venture out into markets yet.
UP: Yes, produce boxes are becoming more popular. You can order them from The Stanley or Santé. There are also several delivery options if you live in the zip codes around the purveyors: Freshlist is piloting delivery in 28205, and NoDa Company store delivers in the area surrounding the shop. NoDa Company store has been ordering local produce that you can purchase online. Both places also offer pick-up if you’re not in the delivery zone. Simpson’s Produce, also known as the Kings Drive market, is selling $25 variety boxes you can pick up curbside, but they sell out fast.

Q: Where can I get margarita kits for Cinco De Mayo?
UP: Who needs kits? You can join us for our virtual happy hour with Dot Dot Dot! If you’d like kits for the weekend, you can order them from Three Amigos, Sabor Latin Street Grill, and The Crunkleton. All are selling just-add-tequila kits. Brian Lorusso of Dogwood is also doing kits; you can order them from him on Instagram.
