Q&A: Summer birthday celebration spots, baby friendly environments

Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: What places do you recommend for a new lunch spot?
UP: I might sound like a broken record, but noodles for lunch is ideal. I would recommend Cilantro Noodle in Plaza Midwood. You create your own bowl and the fast-causal environment is ideal for lunch. Kristen recommends Community Matters Cafe for a sit down environment, especially if it’s a work related lunch.

Q: Where should I go for my birthday? Must have a solid champagne list.
UP: This might be bias, but hear me out. Hello, Sailor for a birthday is my recommendation — especially for a summer birthday. This place is made for fun occasions and a slew of Instagram photos. In lieu of champagne I suggest getting a round of Ramona grapefruit wine spritzers followed by sanquiris — tiny daiquiri shots. Other places to consider if you don’t want to brave 77 are Peppervine, N.C. Red, and Bar Marcel.

Q: I am taking my date out for dessert and drinks, where should I go?
UP: I suggest 300 East because pastry chef Laney Jahkel-Parrish is creating memorable whimsical treats that are refreshing and nostalgic. You could order the entire dessert menu without any regrets. Plus, the Matilda Wong is a fun drink to share on a date.

Q: Where do you recommend for summer beers and entertainment?
UP: I like Sycamore because the beer garden is large enough to not feel overcrowded and no matter where you sit you can hear the live music. The food truck options are plentiful and keep you out longer versus a place without food.

Q: As a new parent, which restaurants do you feel comfortable taking a baby to?
UP: First, my unsolicited parent advice — take your baby out in public as soon as possible to start getting them comfortable with being out in the world. Restaurants that I have feel comfortable having Jasper with me are: Haberdish, Kindred, Kung Foo Noodle, Superica, and Legion Brewing Company in SouthPark. They accommodate families and also have nooks that are nice for baby and their carseats.
