Q&A: She-crab soup, cocktail class tickets

Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: Where can I get she-crab soup in Charlotte?
Tom: First stop, Eddie’s Place in Cotswold. The place is famous for it (among other things). Our friend, local food writing legend Kathleen Purvis, wrote a great story on the man behind the recipe in the December 2024 issue of Charlotte Magazine. Alexander Michael’s in Fourth Ward dishes out a spicy she-crab soup that is also worth trying. In addition, check out Coastal Kitchen & Bar inside the Hilton in Uptown as well as Burtons Grill & Bar in Blakeney.

Bob Peter’s N.C. gin cocktail class on March 22 is sold out, but weather permitting, more tickets may become available. TM Petaccia/UP

Q:  I was too late to get tickets to the Bob Peters cocktail class before it sold out. Any chance a few spots can open up?
Tom: Possibly. It depends on the weather. If the forecast looks good, we may move the class to the patio at The Goodyear House, which would open up a few spots. If so, we’ll reach out to those on the wait list first (make sure you’re on it). If any tickets remain after that, we’ll post the availability to our newsletter subscribers and via our social channels.
