Q&A: Restaurants reopening tomorrow, will takeout continue?

Each week, we answer your questions about food and drink in Charlotte

Q: I’m hoping to go out tomorrow night to support restaurants. Do you know who will be opening?
UP: Many restaurants are choosing not to open yet, simply because they’re not ready. Starting next week, we’ll be posting lists of who is opening each week. Among the restaurants we’ve seen opening tomorrow are Dressler’s, Dogwood, Fin & Fino, The Porter’s House, The Goodyear House, The Waterman, Rooster’s, Noble Smoke, and Santé. Several restaurants, like Dish in Plaza Midwood and 300 East, are serving takeout, but allowing guests to eat their takeout on the restaurants’ patios.

Q: Will restaurants continue doing their curbside delivery and takeout options when they reopen?
UP: Yes, most chefs and owners we’ve spoken to are telling us they won’t be able to make enough revenue operating at 50 percent capacity, so they’ll still be relying heavily on things such as to-go food, delivery, and family-style meals.  Just a reminder, if you’re ordering delivery, see if the restaurant is offering its own delivery before using a third-party service. Companies like DoorDash and Grubhub take a large cut of your order, and restaurants are already pricing low to try and get more business.

Q: Will you be hosting events again anytime soon?
UP: No, likely not in person. However, we’re considering bringing back some more virtual happy hours. When we do bring back our events, they’ll likely be slightly different. More on that to come.
