Q&A: Plaza Midwood market status, rainy weather comfort food
Each week, we answer reader questions about food and drink in Charlotte
Q: Any updates on the opening of the new Plaza Midwood market by former Intermezzo team member, Djordje Avramovic?
Tom: It certainly is taking a while. As we reported last August, the new market will occupy the former Segen Food Mart on The Plaza. We’ve reached out to see what the progress is, but we are still waiting for a reply. All we can tell you at this point is new construction and building renovations move slowly. The city is backlogged on issuing permits and conducting inspections, throwing all expected opening dates out the window. Similar delays are also affecting the planned renovations of Thai Taste on East Boulevard. As soon as we hear anything about either, you can bet we’ll have the story here or in our newsletter.

Q: Now that we’re getting chilly rainy days, I’m looking for warming comfort food. Where can you point me?
Tom: Sweater weather is finally here, and with it, our cravings for dishes to warm our souls as well as our bodies. When the bone-chilling weather hits, I immediately think of going to 300 East for its French onion soup. Also in the running: the chili at Lupie’s, the birria tacos at Maria’s, the crawfish étouffée at Cajun Queen, and the succulent slow-cooked pork shank at Puerta.
